CASE STUDIES

Real Project Evidence Proven on Demanding Projects across Wind, Energy and Major Infrastructure.

With more than 20 projects completed across the UK, Ireland, Europe and the USA, GCE’s experience spans precision installation, offshore execution, specialist material development, rapid mobilisation and complex problem-solving.

The projects below demonstrate the breadth of GCE's capabilities and our commitment to delivering high-quality results across a diverse range of technical challenges.

KEY PROJECT EXPERIENCE

  • Hinkley Point C: Offshore Ground Treatment

GCE supported specialist works associated with the Fish Return System Tunnel at Hinkley Point C. The scope involved grout used as ground treatment to create an impermeable barrier in a temporary island ahead of Tunnel Boring Machine operations.

Because the work was unusual, GCE contributed technically during planning and carried out a full-scale onshore mock-up before the offshore campaign.

Demonstrates: technical input before mobilisation, methodology testing, unusual / first-of-a-kind scope, offshore execution and specialist ground-treatment capability.

  • Teesside Tunnel No. 1: Void Filling & Decommissioning

GCE was brought into the tunnel infill, decommissioning and capping project at short notice after the original contractor had failed to perform.

With approximately two weeks to mobilise, GCE established operations and worked 24 hours a day, seven days a week for five weeks. The works were completed ahead of programme. GCE also developed a low-strength, lower-carbon grout blend for infilling the tunnel and decommissioning the pipelines within it.

Demonstrates: rapid mobilisation, 24/7 delivery, complex problem-solving, specialist material development, increased responsibility and programme focus.

  • Sanquhar 2

Sanquhar 2 is GCE’s largest wind project to date. The project included installation of a Load Distribution

Flange before grouting, using a detailed installation process and surveying to within 0.5 mm accuracy before the next stage of works could proceed.

Demonstrates: wind turbine foundation capability, precision installation, controlled methodology, tight tolerances and quality-focused execution.

  • Windy Standard III

    Windy Standard III

Windy Standard 3 represented an important step in the growth of GCE’s UK wind capability, providing the opportunity to deliver specialist foundation works on a significant onshore wind project.

Demonstrates: UK wind-sector capability, delivery for a major civil engineering contractor and growing project scale.

  • Corlacky Hill Wind Farm

Corlacky Hill was GCE’s first project with Vestas. The team worked under Vestas supervision during the initial period of the project, with positive feedback reported on GCE’s attention to detail. GCE later returned to the site to carry out waterproofing and sealing works.

Demonstrates: delivery for a leading wind turbine OEM, attention to detail, repeat work, new-build and remedial capability, and sealing / waterproofing experience.
